.@vogueparis: Vogue Paris pays tribute to great American designer Oscar de la Renta, who passed away last night at the age of 82.

He discovered fashion under Cristobal Balenciaga in Spain in the 1950s, before making his name in the early 1960s, dressing style icon Jackie Kennedy and developing a reputation for his signature eveningwear. He went on to design for Lanvin, Elizabeth Arden couture and Jane Derby, before debuting on the Paris couture calendar for Pierre Balmain in 1993. He showed ready-to-wear under his own name alongside and is often credited as the father of American fashion, most recently, designing Amal Alamuddin’s dress for her wedding to George Clooney last month.

A tastemaker, former president of the CFDA and internationally acclaimed designer, his legacy will live on most strongly, on the red carpet.
